With so many adverts and campaigns exposed to us daily, it’s hard for businesses to stand out and show that they’re here to make an impact.
Whether it’s through the tugging of heartstrings or creating some serious controversy, brands have had to find new and impressive ways to make themselves recognisable throughout history. That got us thinking, what is it about the ads that have actually made an impact in their industry that have been so unique and influential?
So here are some of the most successful global campaigns and why we think they deserve their light in the Global Campaign hall of fame.
1. Coca-Cola ~ “Share a Coke” Campaign
It’s undeniable, human beings love the feeling of being seen and feeling significant. This campaign had people out and searching for their names on the sides of a bottle of Coke. Although the campaign was launched by the South Pacific company branch, its success was felt worldwide extending the campaign into creating seasonal themed names to keep themselves relevant. This kept the novelty alive for the brand adding to their profits and continued spike in sales.
2. Dove ~ “Real Beauty” Campaign
The “Real Beauty” campaign from Dove had such overwhelming global success and greatly impacted the way the industry approached female beauty products. The comparison between how women see themselves and how they see others pointed out with stark contrast in the commercial, pushed the beauty industry to focus on everyday natural beauty. It was revealed within the campaign that only 4% of women globally considered themselves “Beautiful”. Dove’s aim to change that added to a massive increase in sales and a positive and successful campaign for the beauty of all women.
3. Skittles ~ “Taste the Rainbow”
There’s something to be said about the Skittles advertisements. They’re such a perfect mix of weird and wonderful that make for some memorable entertainment. The “Taste the Rainbow” Campaign is no different. The brand’s ability to continually add a shock factor into its ongoing advertisements paired with the catchy slogan “Touch the rainbow. Taste the rainbow.” impacted the way the industry created product promotions, focusing on entertainment rather than pushing sales.
4. Always ~ “#Likeagirl”
The #LikeAGirl campaign was developed to tackle stereotypes society has created that impact the confidence of young girls. The video was the number one ad on YouTube in March 2016, and the campaign received attention from influential celebrities like Emma Watson. Emoji creators Unicode Project were so influenced by this campaign that they collaborated with Always for new ideas on the next emoji update. The campaign grew such recognition and change in the contemporary view of women in society, that it can be deemed one of the most successful campaigns in the industry.
5. Snickers ~ “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry”
The Snickers campaign for “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” was given global success through the creative drive of one sentence. In a similar way to the “Taste the Rainbow” campaign the creators of this campaign aimed to entertain over sell. With influential celebrity endorsement providing a comedic element in the ads, the campaign grew a name for itself allowing the brand to be known by the tagline alone. Within its first year, “You’re not you when you’re hungry”, helped to increase global sales of Snickers by 16%.
